Literary Lacquers Group Custom “Some Glad Morning.”

Today I am blogging about a polish that is special to me for several reasons. Once again I’ve collaborated with Amy at Literary Lacquers and that alone is a good day! But! This time I requested a custom of my own. I am a teal to cyan girl all the way. Sky colors, marine colors, even angelic colors. (don’t you doubt me!) :p
When I get an image in my head of my mom she is singing the song “I’ll Fly Away.”
She sang me to sleep with it, she sang it in church and she sang it when she was feeling stressed. I never thought of it as a sad song, but a very happy one! When I visualize this song I see a bright beautiful cyan blue and I decided to name my polish “Some Glad Morning.”
In many versions of “I’ll Fly Away”, particularly my favorite which is this one by Alison Crouch, people tend to sing “Some bright morning” but the original hymn written by Albert E. Brumley in 1929 says “Some glad morning” and that is how I remember it being sang back as far as I can remember.

When Amy sent me a test shot of the polish I fell in love. I then posted a bottle shot in her fabulous group Literary (&) Lacquers and you can guess what happened! Everyone else fell in love with it too! At first I didn’t want to share it. I won’t lie, it was an entire sentimental process. My mom is getting old and I am 3,000 miles away, just thinking of her sometimes brings a tear to my eye. Before I moved from Missouri to Alaska I saw my mother at the very least every other day. We’d sit on her porch swing and talk, take a ride to Sonic and get a cherry slush, happy days.
But I knew that Amy had worked very hard on this, had rushed it through just for me and I knew my mama would want me to share. So we decided to make it a group custom. You can only buy this polish if you are a member of the group Literary (&) Lacquers, and I get a feeling it is going to triple in size real quick!
I am going to flood you with photos here in a sec but before I do I want to tell you a bit about the polish itself. When I first put it on I thought “This isn’t my polish, this is teal, and what a teal it is!” I can’t stop staring at it! I am obsessed with mermaids (duh) and this is the same color as you would imagine a mermaid’s tail to be! It flashes with linear glory in mere indoor lighting, it brazenly BRIGHT!
We had no sun today at all and as I took my photos I thought back to the photo of Amy’s nails in the group. She took one in full sun to show us what it looked like. So I opened the flash light on my camera and turned it on and pointed it at my nails. BAM! The color kicked up several shades to a bright cyan! I couldn’t believe it! This is the most beautiful polish that I have ever owned and I may never take it off! I am definitely sending one to my mama! And watch the blog because I’ll be giving one away!
Thank you Amy for your loyal friendship and your vast knowledge of polish, angels and Disney <3
And yes per usual, I am sure there is a cat hair somewhere in these photos LOL

Goodnight Moon on 2013 favorites list

The Manicured Mermaid would like to thank for choosing Goodnight Moon as one of her favorite nail polishes of 2013. I was giddy to see that! Thank you so much for loving the polish that I came up with and was made by Amy. To see that Literary Lacquers had more than one polish on that list was even more awesome. Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster was on my 2013 favorites list also :)

You can read the entire review here:

Since my blog post was about Goodnight Moon you can hop on over there and read it and then come back here and try to win the bottle I’m giving away! I’m sure everyone knows about Amy’s gorgeous Community Collection and as Goodnight Moon is the polish we lovingly collaborated on she was generous enough to not only give me my own bottle, but one to give away! Jack Rose has many faces!

Let’s start this post by ignoring the fact that I haven’t blogged in 8 days ok? Thanks for playing along!

Today I am going to share a polish with you from Literary Lacquers *shocking eh?*, yeah, I am kind of addicted. Amy has an entire new line over at Literary Lacquers, called Literary Liquors. No, you can’t drink it. But you CAN get out that Apple Jack and have a cocktail, or three, with me while you marvel at this beauty! (do not drive after viewing this polish, I mean drinking that cocktail, I started without you oops)

Please do not get out THIS Applejack and try to drink it. My Little Pony fans would start a petition or something.
applejack Instead use THIS Applejack ….2010_10_08-applejack3  (notice the difference?)

And here is the recipe! Put all of this stuff

2 ounces of Apple Jack
1 ounce of fresh lime juice
1/2 ounce of Classic Grenadine

into a cocktail shaker with some ice and do the Macarena for awhile. Then strain it into your prettiest glass and stick an apple slice on it, it will look like this…..if it doesn’t, drink two and then I promise your third one will look JUST like this one.

But WAIT, there’s MORE!
The polish! hehe
In The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway, Jake orders one while he is waiting in the Crillon Hotel for Lady Brett Ashley, she never shows.
This is what she missed out on…..IMG_1721Jack Rose has you covered for all of your Fall adventures. A warm coppery brown that seems to change like a chameleon, I can’t take my eyes off of this.
In some lighting it is honey and in others it just throws facets like the good cut crystal you aren’t drinking out of right now.
IMG_1718(indoors with flash)

and onto some fun stuff and different lighting.
I want to note that I am really trying with my photos, holo’s are so hard to photograph without blurring but I am working on it! I am super excited for my phone upgrade in October because I am getting the Samsung S4 and have already purchased my micro lens, so woot!
IMG_1740I just had to include this because it was so cute. It is already fall here in Alaska and these little (non edible Mario-like) mushrooms are popping up all over.
IMG_1739Crunchy leaves already! The Birch leaves here are the first to go :(
This is sunlight and shadow outside.
(because we do not have sunlight and shadow INside, cheers!)
IMG_1733Should we not show the Hula girl some love? She works so hard on the dash (sings “She works hard for the money!”) Oooh I should paint her nails with this!
IMG_1724This is outside when it was overcast. I got a package today!
You don’t see my address there ok? LOL

IMG_1705Someone kept sticking their paw on my hand while I desperately tried to take a photo, so we played the “knock it off” game for awhile and I won!

IMG_1708This is Angel looking slightly ashamed. She is right?

IMG_1704 IMG_1703These last two photos were taken with my little Starfish guy, I love using fun props and sometimes my props just volunteer. I guarantee you that you will sometimes find a cat hair floating on the end of my nail, so I just saved you from emailing me and saying “Hey there is a cat hair on your nail loser.” :p

So what do you think? Do you love Jack Rose as much as I do? Do you understand what huge meaning that has when I say it? I never wear anything but blue or green and in between but this I couldn’t wait to put on!
As usual Amy’s holo’s are easy peasy to apply. Smooth as buttah and no balding.
Jack Rose is a sheer holo, even with three coats I had vnl so if you want total opacity I would put on some underpanties, I’d recommend any nude polish.
BUT! the bonus here is that one coat of Jack Rose makes for the perfect office holo!
It is demure and charming, then the light from your desk lamp hits it and it sparkles like your big fat engagement ring! If you don’t have a big fat engagement ring and want one just have another Jack Rose cocktail and you won’t care about that either.
Run over to Amy’s Etsy (say that three times fast) shop and order the entire line! I will be showing you some more of them this week so come back and see them. You can pretend my blog is a board book if you don’t like the chatter.

I also highly recommend that you read the books these polishes are based on and then come and discuss them with us over here at Literary (&) Lacquer. See you there!

Just jump! & Amy’s birthday :)

I’ve been after starting this blog for ages now and this year I am trying to make changes in my life. You know, do all of those “someday” things, change bad habits and learn some new good ones. And thank goodness I have some amazing friends that are encouraging me to do all of these things!

You won’t ever see perfection here, but you will see lots of heart, and a passion for nail polish that can’t be denied. My photos need improvement, sometimes my nails insist on growing crooked and lots of times my clean up isn’t as good as I think it is. 😉 But if nothing else I am determined.

You’ll find I don’t follow the classic hand poses. I like to experiment with photos of what hands look like in everyday life because that is how you are going to see your polish isn’t it? Holding a dish towel or a hair brush, hands resting on a table or grasping the mail, let’s just run with it. :)

My first polish post has to naturally be about the one and only glitter whisperer Amy Milder at Literary Lacquers. The polish I want to show you today is Greatest Treasures.
I am a sucker for a blinging holographic I admit, but it also has to have fire, and depth.
Does it make your heart go “boom boom”, do you find yourself staring at your nails at the store, while waiting in traffic or using your phone? You will with Greatest Treasures.

See how the linear holo runs the entire length of the nail?! There is no dragging or balding with this polish, no special base needed and almost full coverage in one coat. That is true love my friend. This is under regular ceiling light, I wish I had caught it outside under full sunlight but then you’d have to shade your eyes, and it wasn’t sunny back when I took these photos anyway. LOL

Amy is having a birthday this month (pssst yes her birthday is all month and that’s that) and today she is releasing her Limited Edition 40th birthday polish with only 40 numbered bottles available, here is hoping that you score a bottle of Amnesia Euphoria Ecstasy! You can see some fab swatches of it over here at —->  Amnesia Euphoria Ecstasy I aspire to take photos that great!

Also check out Amy’s website at Etsy for all of her amazing quality polishes that are based on some of her favorite books, and hopefully some of yours too!
She also has a wonderful Facebook group for discussing our favorite books and you can even talk about polish there too, how can you top that? Ask to join here —> Literature (&) Lacquer

IMG_20121209_192235I leave you with a fire in shadow shot of Greatest Treasures and hope you decide to join me on my polish adventures.
